Furniture Care

With proper care, your Whit McLeod furniture will easily last generations. A few simple steps towards proper care of your heirloom will ensure its lasting beauty and pleasant aging.

Wine Oak

Avoid exposure to strong sunlight; it will cause discoloration.

If you protect the surface of a table with glass, do no use felt, plastic dots, or cork under the glass. Lift object carefully; avoid dragging them over the wood’s surface. Avoid extreme heat or cold and if conditions are very dry use a humidifier in the room.

Alcohol dissolves shellac and will ruin the finish. Blot up all dust with lemon oil (scented mineral oil) once or twice a year to rejuvenate the lustrous finish.

For the folding barrel stave chair, please follow the guidelines below for our Redwood furniture.

Redwood

Our redwood pieces (and the oak folding barrel stave chair) are all designed to be enjoyed whether indoors or outdoors. Exposure to sun and rain add to the character of the wood and in relatively mild doses will not damage the piece.

We recommend, though, that in climates with extremely hot, dry summers or winters with an abundance of rain, snow, or freezing weather, that the furniture not be subject to full outdoor exposure. We also suggest a thorough cleaning and application of a penetrating oil like Deftco (formerly Watco) once a year to rejuvenate the finish and prevent over-dryness which causes cracking.

Douglas Fir

You can maintain the finish of your Douglas Fir pieces with the application of a penetrating oil like Deftco (formerly Watco) once a year to prevent over-dryness which causes cracking.
